The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to present descriptive statistical knovledge and some statistical ınference methods.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : calculate and interpret some basic descriptive statistics. 1,2,3,41,
LO - 2 : discriminate between real and nominal variables1,2,3,41,
LO - 3 : learn basic probability rules and apply them to decision making problems1,2,3,41,
LO - 4 : recognize some probability distributions and use them in order to solve business problems1,2,3,41,

Contents of the Course
Basic Concepts, Statistical Presentations, Location and Variability Measures, Probability, Random Variables, Expected Value and Variance, Distributions of random Variables, Sampling, Point and Interval Estimation, Hypothesis Tests, Simple Linear Regression, Multiple Regression.

 Week 1Basic Concepts: Scales, discrete and continuous variables, complete count and population parameters, random sampling and sample statistics
 Week 2Data Presentations: Frequency distributions, histogram and frequency polygons, frequency curves, cumulative and relative distributions, the "and-under" type of frequency distributions
 Week 3Measures of Location: Arithmetic mean, median, mode, quartiles, deciles and percentiles
 Week 4Measures of Variability: The range, the variance and standard deviation, the coefficient of variation, coefficient of skewness
 Week 5Basic Concepts on Probability: Axioms of probability, some important rules on probability, conditional probability, rules of multiplications, independent events, rules of addition
 Week 6Random Variables: Probability function, distribution functions, expected value and variance, skewness and kurtosis
 Week 7Distribution of Random Variables: Bernoulli and Binomial distributions, Normal distributions
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9Sampling: Population and sample, random sampling, sampling distribution, central limit theorem
 Week 10Point and Interval Estimation: Point estimation, confidence interval for mean and proportion, the student t-distribution, required sample size for estimating mean and proportion
 Week 11Hypothesis Testing: Type I and type II errors, hypothesis testing for mean and proportion
 Week 12Hypothesis Testing: Chi-square distribution and goodness of fit tests
 Week 13Analysis of Variance: One-way analysis of variance
 Week 14Regression and Correlation Analysis: The simple linear regression and corrlation anaysis
 Week 15Marrix approach to simple linear regression analysis
