Objectives of the Course
the course deals with Ottoman and the Republican constitutional, political, and administrative system; development of political culture. Institutional and electoral structures, the role of political parties, civil society organization, public opinion and the military. This course includes the historical evolution of the Ottoman-Turkish political life and developments from the beginning of the nineteen-century until today. Ottoman political life in modernisation; political thoughts (Ottomanism, Islamism, nationalism, Turkish nationalism, feminism, liberalism, socialism...); political institutes (parliament, elections, military interventions...); state-society relationships; civil society organisations; from Empire to the Republic.

Contents of the Course

This course deals with the transformation and evolution of the Ottoman and Turkish political and social life and political thought from 19th century to the present.
