The aim of the course:
This course aims to provide students with legislation and current information about local governments in Turkey and to provide students with the skills to interpret and evaluate local governments in daily life.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : define basic concepts, to list units, of local governments.2,4
LO - 2 : summarize the differences between central and local governments by using graphics and figures.2,4
LO - 3 : interpret the history of local governments.2,4
LO - 4 : analyze the problems local governments confront in every day2,4
LO - 5 : design the relationships between central and local governments.2,4

Contents of the Course
The concept of central administration and decentralization, the concept of local autonomy, the history of local governments in Turkey, municipalities, special provincial administrations, village administration, state-local government relations, urbanization and metropolitan administration, reorganization of local governments are taught. Reasons for the existence of local governments; local governments and economy; distribution of services and resources between local governments and central administration; metropolitan area administration; local governments in practice.
