The aim of the course:
To understand natural hazard term and its effects on human life. To learn how to behaviour natural hazards. To learn how an effect of natural hazard is reduced.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

Contents of the Course
Definition and history of disaster, natural atmospherical, geological, hydrogeological, seismic, technological, dam failures, fire, traffic accidents, hazardous material, nuclear accidents, etc. Sources, mechanisms and processes of disasters. An evaluation of disasters occured in the past. Introduction to catalogue study. Data types, names, database and data management systems. Geographic information systems (GİS) and the logic. Emergency status management concept, far phases (Preparedness, mitigation, intervention, improvement) , coordination, communication. functional teams, relations, organizational coordination community, private, enterprise, goverment. Disaster management concept of Turkey. , legal and current practise. Regulations, decrees, governmental, community groups, private enterprise, local authorithies, and their responsibilities. Standards, codes, specifications, other regukatory and guiding sources in Turkey and in the world related to disaster risk mitigaiton. Studies for pre, during and post disaster occurence, objectives, expected results, vision, risk management, strategical planning concepts. Capacity of buildings to minimize the effects of disasters on humanity, mitigation, prevention, vulnerability, risk, hazard, macrozonation, microzonation terms and their definitions. Building inventory, city and regional planning, land use management plans, settlement plans, retrofitting improvement, concepts on determining new settlement areas. Disaster risk mitigation studies in the world. Disaster risk mitigaiton studies in Turkey. Disaster risk mitigation virtual Project. Design, budgeting, organization, scheduling process, implementation, execution, controlling, monitoring, documentation studies to be done from a Project managemental view. Virtual disaster mitigation Project continues discussions. Change management and its relations with the disaster management.
