The aim of the course:
The student should obtain basic knowledge about seismology.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : learn earthquakes, earthquake parameters and earthquake mechanics.1,2
LO - 2 : learn seismographs, earthquake records and other seismological observations.1,2
LO - 3 : have experience for evaluating earthquakes parameters and earthquake waves.5,6

Contents of the Course
Earth Sciences and earthquake, types and classification of earthquakes, earthquake parameters, assessment of observational seismology, scale of earthquake shock intensities, interpretation of isoseismic maps, instrumentation and principles of seismographs, simple relations among the earthquake source parameters, elastic Rebound theory, principles of elasticity and elastic parameters, velocity and coefficients of elasticity, Snell?s law and incident body waves at a plane interface between two elastic medium, the ray parameter and calculation of wave velocity in relation to the earth radius.
