The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is provide the students with the knowledge of the formation, ocurrence and exploration of fossil fuels.

Contents of the Course
Petroleum: Physical and chemical properties of petroleum. Organic matters. Origin and generation of hydrocarbons. Source rocks. Methods of source rock analysis. Reservoirs, traps and seals. Migration and accumulation. Methods of exploration. Sedimentary basins and petroleum occurrences. Coal : Physical and chemical properties of coals. Coal classification. Coalification processes. Autochthonous and allochthonous theories of coal formation. Paralic and limnic coal basins. Coal petrography. Peat, lignite, bituminous coal, antracite. Exploration methods of coal. Oil shales. Asphaltits.
