The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to provide basic knowledge about radiation physics used in health physics.
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : Learns basic information about radiation.
PO - 2 : Learns radiation doses and exposed risks.
PO - 3 : Radiation calculation and measurement methods, as well as areas of use will be informed.
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), PO : Learning Outcome

 
Contents of the Course
Basic concepts. Alpha decay. Beta decay. Gamma and X-rays. Neutrons and radiation dose. radiation dose units. Biological effects of radiaition. Radiation protection. Radiation sterilization and application areas. Monte Carlo Method. Luminescence Materials. Age Estimation by Using Radiological Methods. X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF) and Neutron activation analysis (NAA). Mass spectrometry.
