It involves an in-depth exploration of the history, perspectives, actors, institutions and economic relationships as they relate to the environment in international relations. In particular, the first part of the course covers the conventional way of analyzing the causes of and cooperation on contemporary environmental challenges through the lenses of theories of international relations, and focuses on the main actors and processes of international environmental, climate, and sustainability politics as well as the most important principles and concepts. The second part of the course engages with strands of ecological approaches consisting of green political thought and the paradigms of sustainable development and renewable energy. The third part of the course will acquaint students with the relationships between environmental degradation and greater phenomena such as health, development, trade, and finance. |
