This course teaches the interaction among state, society, and religion within a theoretical and conceptual framework, and will analyze the part of religion in comprehending the broader contemporary challenges in world affairs and social pressures. In the first half of the semester, the course will introduce a variety of different analytic approaches to religion, and familiarize its audience with the ideas of Marx, Weber, and Durkheim. In the remaining weeks of the semester, the focus of the course will be on exploring religion in relation to global issues. |
