The aim of the course:
Include largely the presentation of special and detailed aspects of medically important RNA viruses.
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : Be able to describe Orthomyxoviruses and give an account on the antigenic drift and antigenic shift aspects of Influenza A virus. 1,35
PO - 2 : Be able to describe special features of measles, mumps, parainfluenza viruses and RSV in relation to infections they cause 1,35,6
PO - 3 : Be able to give describe the general features of picorna viruses and give an account on the paralytic poliovirus infection as well as coxackie virus infections. 1,33
PO - 4 : Distinguish hepatotropic viruses with respect to their oral-fecal and paranteral transmission and gain a detailed knowledge on the special features 1,35
PO - 5 : Be able to describe Retroviridae family and give acquire special knowledge about HIV-1 and 1,35

Contents of the Course
General features of Orthomyxoviridae, Paramyxoviridae, Picornaviridae and Retroviridae family of viruses and hepatitis viruses including hepatitis B virus are studied in detail with special reference to their epidemiologic and disease causing features.
