The aim of the course:
This course aims to address the major difficulties faced in the translations of literary texts produced in English literature and engage the students with the major challenges arising from the translations of English literary texts into Turkish and to teach how to tackle and minimize these problems using various types of literary pieces and finally to help them to enhance their translation skills and capabilities to a desired level.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : develop their capabilities of overcoming the difficulties of the translations of literary texts arising from cultural and linguistic peculiarities of the target language.11,6
PO - 2 : improve their competency of expressing a given idea in another language through the translation of literary texts.111,6
PO - 3 : perceive the importance and significance of preserving the essence and content of the texts to be translated into other language.91,6
PO - 4 : acquire the notion that in the process of ranslation, a word or an expression may come to have different meanings in different contexts, depending on texts.151,6

Contents of the Course
The contents and the nature of literary translation are outlined. Translation methods are introduced as one of the major components of the course. Necessity of handling the translation of literary works independently of other texts is profoundly demonstrated, emphasizing the fact that translations of literary texts becomes more of an effort due to cultural and linguistic factors. An example of every literary form such as poetry short story play texts is translated in the classroom, and students are assigned the tasks of activities of translation.
