Definition and varieties of coated papers. Base paper and its properties. White pigments: clay, calcium carbonate, titanium dioxide, satin white, blanc fixe, aluminium hydrate. Coloured pigments and dyes. Adhesives for coating : starch, casein, , soy protein, animal glues, acrylates, polyvinyl alcohol. Miscellaneous materials used in coating. Coating mixture formulations. Coating Machines and their working principles. Size press. Roll coaters, Blade coaters, Champion machine coater, Air knife coaters, other coating processes. Drying of coated papers, finishing and converting. Quality control of coated paper. Special coated papers. |
