The aim of the course:
To explain metabolism of secondary plant products and their roles in plant system. Human health and plant secondary metabolism. Roles of secondary meabolites in interactions of organisms in ecosystem. Bioavailability of secondary metabolites. Production of plant secondary metabolites in biotechnology.

Contents of the Course
Introduction to plant secondary metabolites. Terpenoids. Synthesis of IPP. Prenyltransferase and terpene synthase reactions. Modification of terpenoid skeletons. Toward transgenic terpenoid production. Alkaloids. Alkaloid biosynthesis. Biotechnological application of alkaloid biosythesis researh. Phenylpropanoid and phenylpropanoid-acetate pathway metabolites. Phenylpropanoid and phenylpropanoid-acetate biosynthesis. Biosynthesis of lignans, lignins and suberization. Flavonoids. Coumarins, Stilbenes, styrylpyrones, and arylpyrones. Metabolic engineering of phenylpropanoid production
