The aim of the course:
To teach practicing basic design principles which were taught at undergraduate level, at open space design projects. The concept of path, border, zone, joint and landmark and the explanation of these concepts by using basic design principles. The concept of individual space and individual space needs. Architectural space and facilities of architectural space is going to be taught.

Contents of the Course
Principles of basic design, application of these principles to outdoor design. Concepts of path, edge, district, node and landmark. Explanation of these concepts with basic design principles. Personal space and demands of personal space. Architectural space and possibilities of architectural space.

 Week 1The concept of space and its classification, activity-space relationship
 Week 2The elements of basic design; line, direction, point, texture, color; analyzing these concepts on samples.
 Week 3Basic design principles, application of these to open spaces.
 Week 4Spatial organization; unity, scale/proportion, symmetry, rhythm, balance in spatial organization.
 Week 5Discussing the concepts of spatial organization with samples.
 Week 6Path, edge, landmark, district and node concepts and analyzing and discussing these concepts with samples.
 Week 7Legibility, coherence, mystery, complexity, prospect, refuge in space and their relationship to spatial organization.
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9Students will define a problem in an open space from their surroundings in terms of spatial organization and discussing this problem
 Week 10Visual analyzes of the determined problem on study area and displaying results and discussing.
 Week 11Students will propose alternative solutions for the problem and discussion of proposals.
 Week 12Presentation and discussion of students' researches.
 Week 13Presentation and discussion of students' researches.
 Week 14Presentation and discussion of students' researches.
