The aim of the course:
The places where wood is used in construction, the explanation of various superior properties of wood compared to other construction materials, the introduction of wooden construction types and production methods, and the evaluation of the performance of wooden structures by comparing them with other construction types.

Contents of the Course
Wooden materials used in construction, explanation of superior properties of wood compared to other building materials. Identification and lassification of wood structure types. Manufacturing methods of wood structures and the evaluating of performance of wood structures by comparing other building types. Identification of physical, mechanical and technological properties of wood used in construction and explanation of test methods. Comparison of the concrete structures and wooden structures in terms of seismic performance.

 Week 1Definitions and related standards; Information on the properties sought in wood material to be used for construction purposes will be given.
 Week 2Necessary information will be given by examining the physical (thermal, acoustic and other physical properties) and mechanical properties of wood in terms of structural use.
 Week 3Transferring information about resistance reducing factors, safety stresses
 Week 4Giving information about the classification of wooden building types and the quality characteristics of the wood used in the building.
 Week 5Information about the history of wooden structures and types of wooden structures will be given.
 Week 6Giving information about Classical and Modern wooden structures
 Week 7Introducing the new generation of multi-storey and safe wooden structures
 Week 8Giving information about the advantages of wooden structures and wooden materials used in construction
 Week 9Midterm
 Week 10Introducing the production methods of wooden structures and evaluating the performance of wooden structures by comparing them with other types of structures.
 Week 11To describe the physical, mechanical and technological properties sought in the wood material used in the building and to explain the tests to be applied.
 Week 12Comparison of wooden structures and reinforced concrete structures in terms of earthquake performance
 Week 13Explaining the methods used in the assembly of wooden building elements, giving comparative advantageous and disadvantageous aspects of these methods.
 Week 14Detailed information will be given on how to evaluate the performance of the connection formed at the end of the joint made with structural wood material glues.
 Week 15Introducing the mechanical based metal fasteners used in wooden structures, explaining the points to be considered in the selection of these elements according to the place of use and material type.
