The aim of the course:
This course aims to expose the graduate students to the principals of Spatial Data Management concept towards appreciation and use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : Digitize paper maps, design a database and input attribute data to the spatial database in Arc/Info software5,6,94,
PO - 2 : Manage spatial database (maps and attribute tables), copy, move, erase and organize the feature classes as coverages5,6,93,4,
PO - 3 : Reclassify an area into a number of defined categories and conduct a number of queries on maps5,6,93,4,5,6,
PO - 4 : Develop and present a case study results to the class using real time exercise of Arc/Info GIS software in front of a class5,6,93,4,5,

Contents of the Course
Information systems, geographic information systems, general principles, concepts, components and spatial functions of computer based spatial data analysis in decisin-making. Data, information, database management systems, spatial data, vector and raster data models, data quality. The concepts of data input, topology, data storage, data anaysis and data display.
