Programme Outcomes | CTPO | TOA | Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to : | | | PO - 1 : | They have general knowledge about isotope, stable isotope and isotope differentiation and will understand the importance of geological stable isotopes. | | | PO - 2 : | Students will learn the causes that lead to C isotope differentiation, interpret sedimentation environment and organic matter type using stable carbon isotope data. | | | PO - 3 : | Students will be able to correlate petroleum-petroleum and oil-source rocks using steady C isotope ratios. | | | CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), PO : Learning Outcome | |
The general definition of isotopes and stable isotopes. Isotope fractionation and the reason of C isotope fractionation. The stable isotope ratios of organic matters and the use of stable C isotopes compositions to determine depositional environment. The C isotope ratios of petroleum and bitumen from source rocks. The use of C isotope compositions in oil-source rock correlation. The C isotope compositions of different fractions of organic matter (kerogen, oil, asphaltenes, NSO compounds, saturates, bitumen, aromatics) and spesific n-alkane compounds.
