The aim of the course:
Numerical modelling of the igneous processes using geochemical (whole-rock and isotopic) data and interpretation of the results.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :

PO - 3 : Familiar with partial melting types, crystallization, fractionation, contamination and AFC processes1,2,3,6,7,8

Contents of the Course
Introduction and terminalogy. Petrological processes: partial melting, fractional crystallization, assimilation-fractional crystallization (AFC), mixing of two-three components. Modelling techniques and limitations. Major-trace element, radiogenic and stable isotope applications.

 Week 7Modelling of partial melting models: Batch melting, Fractional melting, Dynamic Melting, Open system melting.
 Week 8Modelling of crystal fractionation: Equilibrium crystallization, Fractional crystallization/Rayleigh fractionation.

 Week 10Modelling of assimilation-fractional crystalization (AFC) processes.
