The aim of the course:
This course provides a detailed information about the geological characteristics and geodynamic evolution of the Alpine-Himalayan Belt.
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : learn the geological characteristics of the entire Alpine-Himalayan belt.
PO - 2 : learn the different ideas about the geodynamic evolution of the belt.
PO - 3 : understand the basic principles of plate tectonic theory

Contents of the Course
The basic principles of plate tectonics theory, Geology of the Pontides, Geology of the Caucasus, Geological characteristics of Bitlis-Zagros Belt, Eastern Anatolia Plateau, Tethys Ocean, Foreland basins, The origin of Black Sea and Caspian Sea, The geodynamic significance of paleomegnetic data, Comparison of Tibetan and eastern Pontide magmatism, The evolution of the region.
