The aim of the course:
Application of geographical information systems for earth science problems.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : understand importance of spatial data for optimum decision
PO - 2 : learn spatial and non-spatial information stystems and will understand interesting areas of geographical information systems
PO - 3 : learn basic elements and functions of spatial analysis of geographical information systems and modeling real issues
PO - 4 : present data with modern map production approaches
PO - 5 : learn how modeling real world issues using geographical information systems

Contents of the Course
An overview to information systems. Spatial and non-spatial information systems. Geographical ınformation systems; descriptions and application areas. Data models. Database. Topological data structures and topology concept. Database creation in GIS. Inspection of data quality. Spatial analysis, querries, buffer analysis and other spatial analysis in GIS. Data representation in GIS. GIS-based map production approaches. Software, hardware and system selection in GIS. Application areas in GIS. GIS organizations.
