The aim of the course:
Teaching basic knowledge of melting and casting, welding and plastic forming
 
Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : learn the casting methods for production of parts and components1,3,11
LO - 2 : will learn the casting of cast iron, steel and nonferrous metals which are widely used in engineering applications1,3,11
LO - 3 : learn the melting techniques in the furnaces and gain knowledge on the techniques used to avoid or minimize the casting defects1,3,11
LO - 4 : learn the common welding processes and gain knowledge and information on brazing1,3,11
LO - 5 : gain knowlegde and information on the welding devices and electrodes and the methods used to prevent the welding defects1,3,5
LO - 6 : learn and evaluate the metallurgical aspects of welding1,3,5
LO - 7 : learn the principles of cold and hot working1,3,5
LO - 8 : learn forging, rolling and extrusion procecesses widely used in metal industry as well as drawing of rods, wires and tubes1,3,5,11
LO - 9 : explain the production of seamless pipe and tubing5,11
LO - 10 : learn the sheet metal forming processes including shearing, cutting, spinning, stretch forming, explosive forming and deep drawing1,3,5,11

Contents of the Course
Casting: Casting sands and pattern making, Moulding and casting processes, Melting furnaces, Casting of metals and alloys (cast iron, steel and nonferrous metals) Welding processes: Flame and electrical arc cutting, Welding electrodes, Shielded-arc welding, weld defects, SolderingPlastic Forming: Principles of cold and hot forming, Forging, Rolling and extrusion processes, Wire drawing and tube forming, Forming of sheet metals: Shearing, cutting, spinning, stretch forming, explosive forming and deep drawing. Forming limit criteria.
