The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide the students with a general knowledge on definition concept and principles of design; and to teach them concept of space and the principles of space organisation, to help them to accomplish conceptual design process with design practices and to continue solving design questions of many different concepts with practices done by student

Contents of the Course
Theory: Definition concept and principles of design: unity, dominance, balance, repetition, alternation, gradation. Concept of space: spatial organisation and space geometry in two and three dimensional studies, continuity in space organization. Introduction to function, form and structure. The principles of space organisationPractice: The transformation of these concepts into design questions, Making students to solve these questions and criticizing these design solutions.

 Week 1Organization of design elements in outdoor environment scale according to different principles, figure expressions.
 Week 2The ways of producing figure expressions, gradation. Eleventh and twelfth design problems, solution and criticism.
 Week 3The ways of producing figure expressions, depth expressions, producing the feeling of depth by using linearity and enframement. Thirteenth and fourteenth design problems, solution and criticism.
 Week 4Repetition from basic design principles. Fifteenth and sixteenth design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 5Hierarchy and organization principles, central, axial, and peripheral hierarchy. Seventeenth and eighteenth design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 6Unity, balance and dominance in design. Dominance by transition. Nineteenth and twentieth design problems, solution and criticism
 Week 7Acquisition of unity by contrast, formal balance. Twenty-first design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9Space types and the ways of producing space. Three dimensions of function, scale and light, acquisition of unity. Twenty-third design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 10Continuity in producing space. Twenty-fourth design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 11Defining space by vertical and horizontal systems. Twenty-fifth design problem, solution and criticism.
 Week 12Producing space with principles of dominance, balance and unity by using plastic materials.
 Week 13The start of final project. Entrance and circulation solutions of a house environment in scale of 1/100 in light of the design problems solved in previous weeks.
 Week 14Criticizing and guiding designs, discussing face to face.
 Week 15Criticizing and discussing face to face.
