The aim of the course:
To give information about surface chemistry of fibre used for papermaking, chemicals used for enhancing paper properties and their properties

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : classify materials used in papermaking industry 2,31,6
LO - 2 : establish a relationship between surface properties of fiber and polymer adsorption2,31,6
LO - 3 : define retention chemicals and parameters affecting performence of retention chemicals2,31,6
LO - 4 : define mechanisms of chemicals used for enhancing wet and dry strength of paper2,31,6

Contents of the Course
Surface chemistry and topography of fibre, interaction between chemicals, DLVO theory, hydrogen bonding, filler materials, dry and wet strength additives, internal sizing chemicals, dyes and optical whiteners, the general properties of polymers used in papermaking.
