The aim of the course:
The course aims to the students a general knowledge pulping raw materials and pulping processes.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : summarize the effects of wood properties on pulp and paper quality.2,51
LO - 2 : define and explain preparation of wood to mill scale pulping operation. Especially barking, storing, chipping operations.2,51

LO - 4 : explain general aspects of chemical pulping and optimize process variables of chemical pulping2,51

Contents of the Course
The investigation of macroscopic, anatomical and chemical wood properties for paper and pulp production. Quality factor and standardization of raw material. Wood preparation; debarking, chipping and screening system. The general principle of pulp production; mechanical pulp production, semi chemical pulp production, chemical pulp production and pulp production from annual plants, waste paper recovery.

 Week 6 Mechanical pulping using rafinor : Rafinor and their parts, mechanical pulp processes used refiner. Course study-1: Mill svale CTMP production (video presentation.
 Week 7Lab study-2: Refiner mechanical pulp (RMP) production in the lab.
 Week 8Semichemical pulping.

 Week 10Backgrounds of chemical pulping. course study: Mill scale Kraft pulping operation (video presentation)
 Week 11Kraft digesters: Batch and continuous digesters and their usage in the kraft pulping
 Week 12Course study-2: Preparation of digester to the lab- and mill-scale pulping
 Week 13Course study-3: Calculation of H-factor and using of H-factor in control of kraft pulping (a model study)
 Week 14Yield enhanced modifications on conventional kraft pulping, liquor cycle system, byproduct potential.
