The aim of the course:
The aim of the course is to enable students to acquire the knowledge and appreciation of Modernism and Modern English Novel through the study of some of the representative texts, writers and articles within their social, cultural, literary and historical context.

Contents of the Course
The course introduces students to the literary traditions and movements associated with modernism and modern novel through the study of exemplary texts, which is essential for a better understanding and appreciation of Modern English Novel. It thus covers a historical, cultural and literary introduction to modernism along with its main figures,characteristics and related -isms such as James Joyce, Virginia Woolf; stream of consciousness, interior monologue; expressionism, impressionism, symbolism and postmodernism. To this end, the course covers the main representatives of the Modern English Novel with their monumental works such as E. M. Forster's A Passage to India; Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness; Virginia Woolf's To The Lighthouse and James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist As A Young Man.
