The goal is for students to be familiar with various language teaching methodologies and techniques in language teaching by analyzing the nature, advantages, and disadvantages of language teaching methods and approaches. |

This course will introduce students a historical development of language teaching methods and aproaches (Grammar, Translation Method, Direct method, Audiolingual Method, Cognitive Approach and Communicative Approach, etc) in connection with the different schools of thought applied to language learning and teaching in the field of English as a second or foreign Language (ESL/EFL). As part of this course, stdents will be in charge of presenting different foreign language methodologies. The presentation should address among other aspects: definitions and principles for the use of a particular language teaching/learning methodology, advantages and/or disadvantages of using it (applicability and usefulness), examples of specific activities to carry out, a critical position regarding the implications of using that methodology in different teaching settings and, more importantly, a short hands-on activity or application. |
