The aim of the course:
This course is intended to improve students' knowledge of theory of literature, which develop in a period ranging from the Age of Enlightenment to contemporary period. The main subjects of discussion include Naturalism, Modernism, New Historicism, Textual Criticism, Structuralism, Marxist Literary Criticism, Existentialism, and Post Modern Literary Criticism, and analysis of literary texts in relation to various literary theories. It is also part of the course to improve skills of students in analyzing different masterpieces from the various literary theoretical perspectives.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : analyze easily any literary texts belonging to specific literary period, getting involved with the analysis of literary texts.2,31
LO - 2 : make a better assessment of unfamiliar literary works of art written or produced under the influence of contemporary literary movements such as Absurdism, Post Modernism and Existentialism.2,51
LO - 3 : comprehend more easily how contemporary literary movements make impact not only on literature but also visual arts, architecture, dance, music etc.11
LO - 4 : gain necessary insight into different approaches to literary theories and criticism and interpret various forms of art referring to these theories51

Contents of the Course
In this course, the formations of new philosophical and literary movements are introduced beginning with the Age of Enlightenment. Romanticism is also part of the discussion as a movement which emerged in reaction to Neoclassical Age. The discourses of Romantic philosophy which replaced the Age of Reason as well as exponents of Romanticism such as Schiller, Goethe, and Coleridge are presented, and lectures are supplemented by students' presentations. Texts by American authors as well as British authors are studied from the standpoint of literary theories that emerged in Modern Age. Also, important figures that made an impact on literary criticism are introduced in the study.
