The main subjects of discussion include Naturalism, Modernism, New Historicism, Textual Criticism, Structuralism, Marxist Literary Criticism, Existentialism, and Post Modern Literary Criticism, and analysis of literary texts in relation to various literary theories. It is also part of the course to improve skills of students in analyzing different masterpieces from the various literary theoretical perspectives. |

In this course, the formations of new philosophical and literary movements are introduced beginning with the Age of Enlightenment. Romanticism is also part of the discussion as a movement which emerged in reaction to Neoclassical Age. The discourses of Romantic philosophy which replaced the Age of Reason as well as exponents of Romanticism such as Schiller, Goethe, and Coleridge are presented, and lectures are supplemented by students' presentations. Texts by American authors as well as British authors are studied from the standpoint of literary theories that emerged in Modern Age. Also, important figures that made an impact on literary criticism are introduced in the study. |
