This course is designed for students who wish to learn how to design special-purpose language programs to meet the specific academic or work-related language needs of adult learners. In particular, it focuses on the historical development of ESP(English for Specific Purposes), analysis of target communication, needs analysis, issues and methodologies in ESP. It includes discussion of the various subfields of the discipline (e.g., English for Academic Purposes, English for Business, etc.) along with the discussion of ESP?s key principles (e.g., needs/genre analysis, learner needs vs. wants, learner-centered curricula). |
