The aim of the course:
The purpose of this course is to provide student with a background in all areas of sex determination, sex related inheritance, extranuclear inheritance, population and evolutionary genetics and molecular genetics. The final goal is for the student who successfully completes this course to have ability to solve problems and think analytically, to be aware of the power of DNA technology, to be familiar with the language of genetics and the terminology of molecular biology, to be conversant in all of the areas of genetics and finally to be prepared for more advanced course work in cell and molecular biology.

Learning OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : explain the chromosomal basis of sex determination and apply that understanding to predict the sex of individuals with normal and abnormal complements of sex chromosomes1,4,71,
LO - 2 : define sex-linked characteristics and describe their transmission1,4,71,
LO - 3 : differentiate between sex-linked and sex-influenced characteristics1,4,71,
LO - 4 : define characteristics of chrosomal number and structure1,4,71,
LO - 5 : sitoplazmik kalıtımı anlamalı ve Mendellenen kalıtımdan farkını açıklayabilmeli1,4,71,
LO - 6 : analyze a population using the Hardy-Weinberg equation1,4,71,
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome
