The aim of the course:
Teaching of fundamental knowledge about laminated wood materials. Explaining all of the information which should be known about what are veneer and laminated wood materials, log selection and log properties for veneer production, pre-treatment processes, veneer and laminated wood materials production methods, adhesive and binders and product standards.

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : define and explain the veneer, plywood and other laminated wood materials4,51
LO - 2 : apply pre processes such as heating and steaming to logs prior to veneer manufacturing.4,51
LO - 3 : manufacture plywood panels with different adhesive types and evaluate their physical and mechanical properties.4,51,4
LO - 4 : make changes in recipes of adhesive mixture to get desired bond strength.4,51,4
LO - 5 : get the knowledge of different methods for veneer manufacturing and drying4,51
LO - 6 : apply quality control tests for veneers, plywood panels and other laminated wood materials according to the related standards4,51,4
LO - 7 : determine formaldehyde emissions from wood based panels and evaluate the panels if their emission are in reliable limits or not.4,51,4

Development of veneer and laminated wood materials, Wood species for veneer production, The effects of wood structure on the veneer properties, Favourable wood species for inner and outer layer, Veneer production by using sawn method, Log preparing for peeling/cutting, Veneer production by using cutting method, Cutting machines and flow diagram, Technology of cutting process, Veneer production technology by rotary peeling, Veneer sorting and drying, Adhesives, types and properties of adhesives, Physical and mechanical properties of layered wood materials, Standards.
