The aim of the course:
The main objectives of this course are to provide the student with a clear presentation of the basic concepts and principles of physics.

Contents of the Course
Electric fields. Gauss law, Electric potential, Capacitance and dielectrics, Current and resistance, Direct current circuits, Magnetic fields, Sources of the magnetic field, Faradays law, Inductance, Alternating current circuits.

 Week 1Electric fields: Properties of Electric Charges, Insulators and conductors, Coulomb's Law, The Electric Field, Electric Field of a continous charge distribution, Motion of charged particles in a uniform electric field.
 Week 2Gauss law: Electric flux, Gauss's Law, Applications of Gauss's Law to charged insulators, Conductors in Electrostatic Equlibrium.
 Week 3Electric potential: Potantial difference and electric potential, Potential Differences in a uniform electric field, Electric potential due to a continous charge distribution.
 Week 4Definition of Capacitance, Energy stroed in a charged capasitors, Dielectrics, Gauss law and Capacitance.
 Week 5Current and Resistance: Electric current, Resistance and ohm's law, A model for electrical conduction, Resistance and temperature,Electrical energy and power.
 Week 6Direct current circuits: Electromotive force, resistors in series and in parallel, Kirchhoff rules, RC circuits.
 Week 7First written midterm exam
 Week 8Mid-term exam
 Week 9Sources of the magnetic field: The Biot Savart law, The magnetic force between two parallel conductors, Ampere's law, The magnetic field of a selenoid, Magnetic flux, Gauss law in magnetism, Displacement current and the general form of ampere's law.
 Week 10Faradays law: Faradays law of induction, Motional emf, Lenz's law, induced emf and electric fields.
 Week 11Second written midterm exam
 Week 12Inductance: Self inductance, RL circuits, Energy in a magnetic field.
 Week 13Alternating current circuits: AC sources and Phasors, Inductors in an AC circuit.
 Week 14Reciprocal inductance, The oscillations in LC circuit
 Week 15AC circuit with Inductors, AC circuit with capacitors, RLC serial circuit, Power in AC circuit.
