MET3025 | Introduction to Biomaterials | 3+0+0 | ECTS:4 | Year / Semester | Fall Semester | Level of Course | First Cycle | Status | Elective | Department | DEPARTMENT of METALLURGICAL and MATERIALS ENGINEERING | Prerequisites and co-requisites | None | Mode of Delivery | | Contact Hours | 14 weeks - 3 hours of lectures per week | Lecturer | Prof. Dr. Aykut ÇANAKÇI | Co-Lecturer | Nobody | Language of instruction | Turkish | Professional practise ( internship ) | None | | The aim of the course: | To teach students the types and properties of materials used as biomaterials, tissue-material relations, simule environments and animal studies. To provide students with interdisciplinary knowledge by giving information about soft and hard tissue engineering applications of biodegradable and non-degradable polymers and drug release studies. It is expected that students should have an idea about the current studies by conducting researches as a group themselves and to report and present this work in the last five years in a topic of their own choice which includes materials production and applications on biomaterials. |
Learning Outcomes | CTPO | TOA | Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to : | | | LO - 1 : | Experimental material preparation, characterization and application stages related to biomaterials, which is a common intersection of Biology and Materials Engineering, the ability to propose materials for synthesizing and applying research and results | 1,12 | | LO - 2 : | Ability to build and interpret structure-property relationships in terms of biomaterials, classification, characterization and applications | 1,12 | | LO - 3 : | Having the ability to access information by using information technology / library | 1,12 | | LO - 4 : | Having the ability to write reports and make oral presentations | 1,12 | | LO - 5 : | Ability to develop professional and ethical responsibility in the development stages of biomaterials | 1,12 | | LO - 6 : | Ability to conduct Individual and Team work | 1,12 | | CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), LO : Learning Outcome | |
