The aim of the course:
The aim of this course is to introduce students to the major poets, genres, and literary works of Old Turkish Literature from the 13th to the 14th centuries within their historical, cultural, and aesthetic contexts. The course enables students to analyze poetic and prose texts using philological and critical methods, and to develop skills in textual commentary, interpretation, and interdisciplinary contextualization.

Contents of the Course
The course examines the main characteristics of 13th?14th century Turkish literature, focusing on Anatolian and Azerbaijani literary spheres, mesnevi tradition, and mystical poetry. Through the works of figures such as Kadı Burhaneddin, Nesîmî, Yûnus Emre, Gülşehrî, Âşık Paşa, Şeyyad Hamza, Yusuf-ı Meddah, Elvan Çelebi, Hoca Mesud, Fahrî, Dehhânî, Şeyhoğlu Mustafa, Ahmedî, and Ali Shîr Nevâyî, students explore the poetic, prosodic, and mystical dimensions of early Turkish literature. Textual commentary and close reading exercises are conducted on selected ghazals, mesnevi passages, and early prose samples.
