The aim of the course:
To establish the foundation by providing basic information about matter, atomic structure, types of chemical reactions, states of matter, gases, thermochemistry and molecular shapes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
LO - 1 : They can name substances, compounds, and mixtures by knowing their differences. They can understand and convert concentration units.11,
LO - 2 : They can classify chemical reactions and perform stoichiometric calculations.11,
LO - 3 : They know gases and their properties. They know the concepts of energy, heat, and enthalpy. 11,
LO - 4 : They know the atom and its structure. They know intramolecular and intermolecular chemical bonds. 11,
LO - 5 : They can use all the topics they learn as a basis for learning more advanced courses. 11,

Contents of the Course
Matter: Elements, Compounds, Mixtures, Naming Compounds; Measurements and the Mole Concept: Conversion of Units, Uncertainty in Measurements, Chemical Quantities, Determination of Chemical Formulas; Chemical Reactions: Writing and Balancing Chemical Reactions, Precipitation, Neutralization, and Redox Reactions; Reaction Stoichiometry: Mole-to-mole estimation, Mass-to-mass estimation, Determining the Volume of Solution Required for a Reaction, Theoretical and Experimental Yields of Limiting Reagents and Reactions; Gases: States of Matter, Molecular Character of Gases, Gas Laws, Gas Mixtures, Real Gases; Thermochemistry: Energy, Heat, and Enthalpy; Atomic Structure: Characteristic Properties of Light, Atomic Spectra, Energy Levels, Atomic Models, Periodic Table; Chemical Bonding: Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, Lewis Structures, Lattice Enthalpy, Formal Charges; Molecules: Shape of molecules and polyatomic ions, VSEPR model, Charge distributions, Bond strengths and bond lengths, Hybridization of orbitals.
