Contents of the Course
Since 2?3 of the Earth is sea, humanity has developed in a process of mutual interaction with the seas. International maritime law, which consists of the sum of custom, tradition, treaty, contract and doctrine; It is one of the primary fields of international law in which tradition and binding provisions have rule-making normative features. The codification of maritime law, which has developed on the high seas, coasts, straits and around islands for thousands of years, has not been easy due to its complex history. On the other hand, increasing commercial and military mobility at sea has forced states to establish this law in certain norms. As a matter of fact, since the 1950s, maritime disputes and interests began to turn into international problems and trigger the crises of the Cold War period. The necessity of carrying out certain studies in order to make human relations at sea subject to certain rules and to bring the existing rules of conduct into an order that is at least mutually acceptable for almost all states was actually a situation that emerged before World War I. It has not been easy to create an international normative law that can protect everyone's rights and provide general satisfaction in the seas and straits, where sovereignty and fixed rules or borders are difficult to determine exactly as on land. One of the most controversial issues was the determination of the rules to be applied during the passage of the Straits. Connecting the world's seas; There are 62 straits with commercial and economic value. In this course, developments in International Law along with the latest practices in maritime law will be discussed.
