The aim of the course:
The course aims to provide students with the basics of mathematical control theory and its applications
 
Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : have a working knowledge of applications of control theory
PO - 2 : analyse discrete systems using Z-transform
PO - 3 : apply Lypunov method for stability analysis

Contents of the Course
Introduction to control theory, classical control theory and transform theory, continous-time systems: Laplace transform, discrete-time systems: z-transform, preliminaries for matrix theory, matrix solutions for linear systems, linear control systems, controllability, observability, controllability and polynomials, linear feedback, constant systems, varying systems, stability, definitions of stability, algebraic criteria of linear systems, Nyquist theory for linear systems, Liapunov theory, Application of Liapunov theory to the linear systems, Construction of Liapunov functions, stability and control, nonlinear feedback, optimal control, performance indices, calculus of variations, Pontryagins principle, linear regulator, dynamical programming.
