The aim of the course:
To teach the students the fundamentals of wind engineering and to determine the responses of different structures due to wind effect by using different standards.

Programme OutcomesCTPOTOA
Upon successful completion of the course, the students will be able to :
PO - 1 : learn importance of wind effects on structures.1,3,5,111,5,6
PO - 2 : determine wind loads on the structure depending on the different types of surfaces by using different approximations.1,3,5,111,5,6
PO - 3 : determine response of different tall buildings subjected to wind loads.1,3,5,111,5,6
PO - 4 : learn difference of the ANSI and NRCC standards by different problems.1,3,5,111,5,6
CTPO : Contribution to programme outcomes, TOA :Type of assessment (1: written exam, 2: Oral exam, 3: Homework assignment, 4: Laboratory exercise/exam, 5: Seminar / presentation, 6: Term paper), PO : Learning Outcome

Contents of the Course
Introduction. Atmosphere. Wind loads and their effects on structures: fundamentals, application to design. Response of tall buildings, slender towers with circular cross section, and hyperbolic cooling towers. Comparison of the results obtained by ANSI and NRCC for different types of structures
