FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department was founded in 1996. The department under Faculty of Marine Science is the youngest department of Turkey on its own branch. The department brings up naval architects and marine engineers who can produce the most economic products using the current technologies and design systems. The department gets students within 336.000-327.000 OSS-SAY2 points and students have main and optional lessons about naval architecture, marine engineering and social branches during the undergraduate program.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed all of the thought courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and had a pass grade from the Professional placement period and the report prepared therein are given Bachelor's Degree in NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND MARINE ENGINEERING

1 - High school diploma , 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS)
 
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
The department of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering is committed to addressing the educational and research needs to ensure sustainable management of the divers ship design and production areas. . Main research activities involve ship production, ship design, ship resistace, marine enginees, air conditioning.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum including summer practices, with a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
In each semester, students are subjected to midterm exams, projects, seminars, field studies, quizzes, homework, laboratory or similar midterm studies and final exam. The contribution of the semester study to the success grade is 50% and the contribution of the final exam is 50%. All exams are evaluated out of 100 points and it is obligatory to get at least 45 points in the final exam. At the end of each semester, students can take make-up exams from all courses of that semester. Students who get one of the letter grades (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) in a course are considered successful in that course.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
Students who successfully complete all of the courses available in the program (for a total of 240 ECTS), have a grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00, and complete a 60-day professional internship are awarded a bachelor's degree in NAVAL ARCHITECTURE and MARINE ENGINEERING
 
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The curriculum prepares students for careers in fisheries professions within private or state fisheries and maritime sectors, and ensures that, upon graduation, students are eligible for employment or post-graduate study. Additionally, the Department maintains a nationally and internationally recognized research program that addresses all aspects of fisheries and aquatic sciences
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have completed the department with a grade above average may apply for postgraduate studies (Master of Science, Doctor of Philosophy) in variety of fields in the department.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
Since Faculty of Marine Science is located near the shipyards of Camburnu, students are able to see the parts of ship and construction methods in these shipyards . There are two dining halls, one basketball area, one volleyball area and football areas at the faculty. Students of the department are able to use the metarial, engines, fluids, hydrodynamics and vibration laboratories in Mechanical Engineering Department and computer laboratories in Faculty of Marine Science
