FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Department of public administration was established in 1992 and started to education in 2000. The department has four sub-disciplines, i.e., political and social sciences, management sciences, legal sciences and urban and environmental sciences. The department had started to education with limited academicians but today it has eighteen persons, four of them are professors, five of them are associate professors, three of them are assistant professors and six of them are research assistants. The rate of the application to Erasmus program is rather high.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed all of the courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits and achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are given Bachelor's Degree in PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - High school diploma, 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (YKS).
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Our graduates in their early career periods,
As district governor candidates, inspectors, auditors, controllers, assistant experts and manager candidates with management, politics, law, city-environment, economics and finance knowledge in ministries, public institutions and organizations and public banks;
As experts and managers who can identify, analyze, interpret and make decisions about problems in national and international private banks, businesses and non-governmental organizations;
They are employed as researchers who can produce solutions to administrative, political, environmental, urban and social problems in the light of contemporary developments and innovations.
They continue their academic and personal development with the awareness of lifelong learning and professional ethics.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
A student is required to have a minimum CGPA of 2.00/4.00 and no failing grades.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
1 exam and 1 final exam at the and of the term. %50 of the exam and %50 of the final exam determine the students' success.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Public Administration are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
Graduates basically take charge in the management units of all public and private institutions, ensure the implementation of laws and supervise other personnel. In short, they apply the principles of management science in the institution where they work. In addition, they take part in inspection boards or similar audit units, which are also called staff units, which help managers with their expertise in all public organizations. Some of the graduates work as supervisors in the private sector, in the inspection boards of companies, especially banks, just like in the public sector. A group of graduates continue their careers as lecturers at universities. Although few in number, some graduates are also involved in active politics.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
The department is using the a part of the second floor of the first building bloc of the faculty of administrative and economical sciences for academic personnels. A part of the fourth floor of the second building bloc of the faculty equipped with technological classrooms and compter laboratories are allocated to the public administration. All of the academic personnels have labtobs computers connected to internet
