FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
In 1963-1973, when the article 4936 was in effect, the educational period was 5 years; however, with the article 1750, the Law of Universities passed in 1973, the educational period was reduced to 4 years. The Department of Architecture started 4-year education in 1977-1978 educational year. Department of Architecture formed Faculty of Architecture in 2005 by seperating from The Faculty of Architecture and Engineering. The education is 4 years.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed all of the required courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and had a satisfactory grade from the Professional placement period and the report prepared therein are given Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - Entry into higher education in Turkey is through The Student Selection Examination (ÖSS). The placement into most of the first cycle degree programmes is made solely based on the scores obtained from this exam. Students taking the exam make their choices of degree programmes, and send their list to The Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM), which is affiliated to The Higher Education Council (YÖK). The ÖSYM receives all the applications, group the applications with respect to the score type (such as languages, literature, science, and social sciences), list them from the highest score to the lowest, list all the available degree programmes based on the demand for them, and places the students with sufficient scores to one of the selections they have made.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Department of Architecture was established in 1963 as being the fourth architectural school in the country. The curriculum is based on subjects, such as building science, construction, restoration and architectural measurement history of art and architecture and urban planning. Research interests vary from local to regional and to national scales on housing, urban problems, regional development and heritage conservation in general. Architecture department aims at training architecture human resource that the country needs among the other human resources. Architecture is not only teaching building and its design and building process, but also at the same time training person, group and society, and their behavioral pattern and will be searching the way to design and produce suitable building and space for person and society in today and the future.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
To be able to get the bachelor's degree in the field of Architecture (and thus title of Architect) the students are required to
(a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC.
(b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,
(c) have completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements,
(d) have prepared a graduation project, submitted and successfully defended with a passing grade.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Students are required to take midterm exams, midterm studies (projects, seminars, area studies, homework, a second midterm exam) and a final exam every semester. Midterm exam, midterm studies and final exam scores are given out of 100 point. It is obligatory to get at least 45 points from the final exam. The final grade is made up of 30% of midterm exam, 20 % of midterm studies and 50 % of final exam.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Architecture are the same as the general requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to get the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements.

ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of architecture here and in other universities, as well as other fields accepting student from the field of architecture.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
Located on the main campus, the departments benefit from the all the physical and social facilities offered by the campus. It has a multifunctional architectural and computer laboratory.
