FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Department of Histology and Embryology was founded in 1982. Master and doctorate pogramme in Instıtute of Health Sciences was initiated in 1990.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
- To graduate from a department or faculty that meets the "Graduation Prerequisites for Application to Graduate Programs" determined by the Board of Health Sciences Institute and approved by the Karadeniz Technical University Senate.
- Having ALES (Quantitative/Equally Weighted) and a Foreign Language base score determined by the Board of Health Sciences Institute and approved by the KTU Senate (Application and Entry Requirements for the Graduate Programs of the KTU Health Sciences Institute).
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Department of Histology and Embryology educates subjets who they may work in the field of health sciences and gain basic laboratory experiences . Major research facilities include new improvements in cell and tissue sciences, using light and electron microscopy techniques in health sciences
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
To graduate from the doctoral program;
- Not less than 21 credits (240 ECTS) in total, including the compulsory courses of the program, including at least seven courses, two of which are in English, and the non-credit seminar, "Scientific Research and Publication Ethics" and "Scientific Research and Project Preparation Education" courses by the end of the fourth semester at the latest,
- The student admitted with a master's degree in the doctoral qualification exam, at the earliest at the end of the third semester, at the latest until the end of the fifth semester, if the student who has been accepted with a bachelor's degree, at the end of the fifth semester at the earliest, until the end of the seventh semester at the latest,
- "Development and Learning" and "Planning and Evaluation in Teaching" courses until the thesis defense exam,
- The thesis study, for which at least three successful thesis monitoring committee reports have been submitted, provided that it is not unsuccessful two times in a row or three times intermittently, must be successfully completed by the end of the 12th semester at the latest
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Students are subjected to a midterm exam, term study (project, seminar, quiz, assignment, or a second midterm exam), and final exam for each course. The share of the midterm exam in the final grade of the course is 30%, that of the term study is 20%, and that of the final exam is 50%. All exams are graded out of 100 points. For a student to be considered successful in a course, s/he must get at least a letter grade of "BB" as the end-of-semester grade in that course.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
- To graduate, students fulfilling the requirements for the degree to be earned must meet the publication requirements specified in the Graduate School of Health Sciences "Requirements for Thesis Submission for Doctoral Program Students".
