FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
The Department of Forest Industry Engineering has been part of the Karadeniz Technical University since 1971. It was the first department in its own field. Now, with a total of 33 staff members, the department is one of the strongest departments in Turkey.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed all of the thought courses of the programme with 240 ECTS credits, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and had a pass grade from the Professional placement period and the report prepared therein are given Bachelor's Degree in FOREST INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - High school diploma, 2 - Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS),
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
The education program of Department of Forest Industrial Engineering which established at 1971 and was the first department in our country meets the expectations of forest products industry and provide basic information related to the forest ındustry sectors. The undergraduate curriculum emphasizes communication, problem-solving and technical skills. The curriculum constructed to achieve these objectives contain courses in the field of wood mechanics and technology, wood protection, forest products chemistry and technology and machineries of forest industry, and additional courses such as computer applications, business management and behavioural sciences. In addition to compulsory courses, the students are given the chance of taking courses from the list of elective courses based on their own preferences, which makes the programme flexible from the students' perspective. This enables the department to educate forest industrial engineers who have the competency to work individually or in groups to identify wood science and technology problems, find solutions for them and apply them with an ethical responsibility.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed all the courses in the curriculum including summer practices, with a CGPA of 2.00 out of 4.00.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Forest Industrial Engineering is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. The details given for each course in the programme include the detailed assessment methods together with a description of the second mid-term exam.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department of Forest Industrial Engineering are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and completed the compulsory practical placement period of 60 days and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The graduates of the forest industrial engineering department has many opportunities of employment in a varitey of state and private companies. Graduates have secured entry-level and middle management positions with good starting salaries and opportunities for advancement. Employers range from very small businesses to large multinational firms, and are located in urban centres as well as rural areas. The program?s interdisciplinary nature allows graduates to pursue careers in areas such as material processing, wood finishing, product design, quality control, sales and marketing of forest products industry
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
Students completing undergraduate programs with at least 2.0 (out of 4) academic average and having the required score from ALES (Academic Graduate Exam) may apply to the graduate programs. The graduate programs are designed to lead MSc and PhD degrees any field in wood science or pulp and paper science and technology. Students completing the undergraduate programs with at least 3.2 (out of 4) academic average and scoring 70 from ALES (Academic Graduate Exam) may apply directly to the PhD programs
