FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Karadeniz Technical University, Department of Turkish Language and Literature has started a program on Turkish Language and Literature in 1994-1995 academic year and continues education in this field. The secondary education program was opened in 2008-2009 academic year. The Turkish Language and Literature Department has the potential for providing modern academic education with its facilities thanks to 24 years of experience. The department offered master program in 1998-1999 academic year and PhD program in 2009-2010 academic year in accordance with the 2547th regulation of Social Sciences Institute, Higher Education Law.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who are graduated are awarded with BACHELOR'S DEGREE.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - High School Diploma,
2 - A sufficient grade from Higher Education Council's University Student Selection and Placement Exam
3 - Foreign students will be accepted according to the allocated quota and conditions which are determined by KTU with the YOK's permission.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
The program consists of academicians who are experts in the field and the necessary studies are carried out together with the courses. Areas of study of the department are New Turkish Language, Old Turkish Language, Old Turkish Literature, New Turkish Literature, Folk Literature. The aim is to educate students as individuals with field skills, and then to succeed in the vocational exams they will encounter; and public and private sector. At the same time, students are educated as a skilled and equipped graduates of Turkish Language and Literature at national and international level.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
In order to successfully complete all courses available in the program (equivalent to 240 ECTS in total), obtain at least 2.0 weighted GPA out of 4.00 by taking defined pass grades.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The students are evaluated by means of a midterm exam/ a term Project (seminar, quiz, assignment, or a second midterm exam) and a final exam for each course. The contribution of each evaluation method is as follows: midterm exam-50%, and final exam-50%. All exams are graded out of 100 points. Students are required to take at least 45 from the final exam. A student who has scored either of the letter grades (AA),(BA),(BB),(CB) and (CC) are regarded successful for the courses. The students can take exams for each semester. Each student must register to the courses at the beginning of the semester and attend at least 70% of the courses and at least 80% of the seminars. GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The requirements in the Rules for Degree apply.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
The students who achieve bachelor's degree can make an academic career, be teacher in schools connected to Ministry of Education or private education institutions,
work as an officer in media corporations and other public corporations.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
Students who have finished undergraduate education and have valid ALES results could apply for MA and Ph.D. studies. Those who succeeded in departmental interview could start graduate studies.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
Since September 2016, the Department of Turkish Language and Literature has been continuing its activities in the E Block of the Faculty of Letters. The department offers the following: 3 professors, 1 associate professor, 7 assistant professors, 1 doctor lecturer, 9 research assistants and 1 secretary. There are 16 rooms, 1 secretary room, archive and meeting room for academic staff. In addition, 7 classes are allocated for the courses.
