FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Karadeniz Technical University State Conservatory was founded in 2003. In 2008, as a respond to the current needs, a new configuration has been made by taking into consideration with evaluation of research and investigations that relating to other conservatories. In accordance with this new configuration, establishment of three sections and the seven departments within the sections were approved. In 2011-2012, Musicology Department has begun to accept to students. Currently, it has about fifty students and gave the first graduates at the end of 2014-2015 academic year.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
A student who passes all the courses with average 2.00 over 4.00 points (in response of total 240 ECTS ) are awarded with diploma in MUSICOLOGY field.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1) To be a Turkish citizen.
2) To hold a high school or an equivalent school degree.
3) To receive at least 160.000 or higher score from YGS.
4) To pass the first exam of audition of Musicology Department and score enough point from the second stage of the exam, in order to rank among in the announced quota.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Musicology program dates back to a four years curricula. As result of locating in an area (Blacksea Region) with rich and existing culture, and preserving of the fertile cultural structures surviving in many parts of our country, KTU State Conservatory Musicology Department pursuing a curricula with the aim of educating musicologists who can take role in the processes of: compiling local cultural products, with qualified field research, surviving in Eastern Blacksea Region and Anatolian district, collection, creating connections with past generations, protecting and transferring to following generations. Besides, it educates students about the cultures of era lived in different parts of the world in order to asses and detect data in the field of history scientifically. It also presents an applied and theoretic course content to conduct creative,new, and uniqe researches and projects to be designed.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
Terms and conditions to be fulfilled by the students to get a license degree in Musicology field; a) succeeding all the courses mentioned in the syllabus, b) getting 2.0 average over 4.0 points, c) having prepared a final project, presenting it in front of a jury and passing with a successful grade.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Exams in musicology are based on performance of individual and group work courses, but in theoretic courses it is based on both performance and written forms. During the term students are expected to handle projects about related subjects and give presentation or seminar. Students have to pass a mid-term exam handle a term work (project, seminar, quiz, paper, or second mid-term exam), and success final exam. The percentages of exam grades are like that: mid-term exam %30, mid-term paper or project %20, final exam %50).
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
Students who pass all the courses with average 2.00 over 4.00 (in response of total 240 ECTS ) and complete their final project with a successful grade from jury are awarded with MUSICOLOGY diploma.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
A student who graduates from the department of Musicology program can find job in civil public organizations, Culture Ministry and city culture head departments, special research groups, music production fields, different public organizations, music enterprise and consolidation fields. Besides, the graduates that get pedagogical formation can find a job as a teacher in the schools of Turkish National Education Ministry. In addition to that, the ones who success to make master and PhD degree have the opportunity to work in the different stages of the university academic personnel society.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who graduates successfully can take part in the master program under the condition that they get enough point from the ALES ( an written exam similar to GMAT), have enough point from KPDS, TOEFL, etc, and enough grade of diploma.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
The department has enough opportunities to make education and researches enabled in the field of musicology. Some of these opportunities are: sound proof and acoustic classes, student study rooms, studio, archive. Besides there are lots of instruments in the service of our students and scholars.
