FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
The Department of Gematics Engineering started in 1975/1976 academic year post graduate education. The department drives these activities as a division of Geomatics Engineering within the KTU Natural Sciences Institute
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields and achieved a CGPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00 defended her/his written thesis to examining jury. This jury having evaluated written thesis and candidate defense arrive at the final decision. Students who successfully defended a thesis to a examining jury are given Doctor of Philosophy Degree (Ph.D) in Geomatics Engineering.

MODE of STUDY  
Full Time
ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - Master's Degree in acceptable fields,
2 - Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES),
3 - English proficiency (500 from TOEFL / 6 from IELTS)
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Totaly 48 students have graduated from this program from the beging of 1975 till 2009. Most of these students have employed at different universities as academic in Turkey.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.



In this Directive,



- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,

- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,

- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.


Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar.
Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (60 ECTS) from thought courses with a CGPA of at least 3.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and defended a thesis.
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
Students have to take mid-term exam, semester studies (project, seminar, quiz, homework or second mid-term exam) and end-term exam for each course. For the final success grade hase calculated by taking 30% of mid-term exam, 20% of semester studies and 50% of end-term exam. All exams has evaluated out of 100 as absolute grade. Students gaining grade as one of (AA), (BA), (BB), (CB) and (CC) has been accepted as successful.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
Students successfuly completed a minimum of 21 local credits, course of Seminar, pedagogic courses and prepared and defended thesis successfuly has deserved to graduate.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
There are 6 laboratories, GIS laboratory , Surveying laboratory, Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing laboratory, GPS laboratory and Computer laboratory and IVS Analysis Center, to derive academic activities and to make scientific researches. There are 10 classes to be equipped technological presentation apparatus and a-200 person amphitheater (Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Özbenli) in the department.
