FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department was established within Fatih Education Faculty in 1988. Physical Education and Sport Department were transferred to School of Physical Education and Sports in 2007. Physical Education and Sport School includes four departments. These are Physical Education and Sports Teaching Department, Trainer Teaching Depertment , Sports Management Department and Recreation Department. The active one is Physical Education and Sports Department. It is intended to enroll other depertments in 2009-2010 academic year.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have graduated from the department of Physical Education and Sports Teaching is awarded with a Bachelor´s degree in the field Physical Education and Sports Teaching.

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - High school diploma, 2 -Obtaining the required grade from National University Entrance and Placement Exam (ÖSS), 3 - To succeed special skills exam.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Department of Physical Education and Teaching carries out a curriculum to educate students to become physical education teacher, trainer, sports scientist, sports manager and recreation leader. This programme is an important need in the middle and eastern black sea region. Programme cantains some required courses such as teaching profession and general culture. The students are given the chance of taking courses from the list of elective courses based on their own preferences, which makes the programme flexible from the students' perspective. This enables the department to educate physical education teacher who have the competency to work individually or in groups to identify physical education and sports problems, find solutions for them.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
To be able to secure the bachelor´s degree in the field of Physical Education and Sports Teaching Deppartment the students are required to:
(a) have passed all courses in the curiculum with a grade of at least DC form the,
(b) have achieved a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00,
(c) completed the compulsory practical placement period and had a passing grade for the reports prepared for these placements.
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Physical Education and Teacher is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 81-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 76-80 BA, 70-75 BB, 60-69 CB, 50-59 CC, 45-49 DC, 40-44 DD, 30-39 FD and 0-29 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, DD to FF fail, and DC is conditional pass and requires a CGPA of at least 2.0 for that term. The details given for each course in the programme include the detailed assessment methods together with a description of the second mid-term exam.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS  
The graduation requirements for the Department Physical Education and Sports are the same as the qualification requirements and regulations. There is no additional requirement to secure the Bachelor's Degree provided that the students have passed all the courses in the curriculum with at least a DC grade, had a cumulative gross point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00.
OCCUPATIONAL PROFILES of GRADUATES  
Graduates of this program, the required score to receive from the KPSS by the Ministry of Education are appointed them as a teacher of physical education and sports. In addition, Directorate of Youth and Sports in the central and provincial organizations and private sport centers can serve as a coach.
ACCESS to FURTHER STUDIES  
The students who have successfully graduated from the department may apply to post graduate programmes in the field of Physical Education and Sports here and in other universities, as well as other fields accepting student from the field of Physical Education and Sports.
