FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department was founded in 1996 . The department under Faculty of Marine Science is the youngest department of Turkey on its own branch..Since Faculty of Marine Science is located near the shipyards of Camburnu, students are able to see the parts of ship and construction methods in these shipyards . In the natural ambience there are two dining halls, one basketball area, one volleyball area and football areas at the faculty.The department gets about 40 students every year. In the 4 year-period students have main and optional lessons about naval architecture, marine engineering and social branches. And student have to be under training for 60-days for the applied-education . Also at Karadeniz Technical University there is an opportunity of having a second license of another departments. Students of the department are able to use the metarial, engines, fluids, hydrodynamics and vibration laboratories in Mechanical Engineering Department and computer laboratories in Faculty of Marine Science.There are , 1 Assoc. Prof., 4 Assist. Prof., 2 lecturers and 3 researchers at Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering Department. At the department education is supported by the 11 academics From Mechanical Engineering Department and 4 academics from ITU Faculty of Marine Science and Naval Architecture.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Master's Degree in NAVAL ARCHITECTURE AND MARINE ENGINEERING

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
1 - Bachelor's Degree in acceptable fields,
2 - Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES),
3 - English proficiency (500 from TOEFL / 6 from IELTS)
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
The curriculum prepares students for careers in Naval Architecture nad Marine Engineering professions within maritime sectors, and ensures that, upon graduation, students are eligible for employment or post-graduate study. Additionally, the Department maintains a nationally and internationally recognized research program that addresses all aspects of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS and REGULATIONS  
The degree is awarded to students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (60 ECTS) from thought courses with a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00, and prepared and defended a thesis.
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Geology is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively. The marking is made out of 100. Grades of 90-100 is assigned a letter grade of AA, 85-89 BA, 80-84 BB, 75-79 CB, 70-74 CC, 60-69 DC, 50-59 DD, 40-49 FD and 0-39 FF. The AA is the highest grade and has a grade credit of 4.00, BA 3.5, BB 3.0, CB 2.5, CC 2.0, DC 1.5, DD 1.0, FD 0.5 and FF 0.0. Grades of AA to CC are pass, the others fail.

The curriculum prepares students for careers in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering within private or state maritime sectors, and ensures that, upon graduation, students are eligible for employment or post-graduate study. Additionally, the Department maintains a nationally and internationally recognized research program that addresses all aspects of fisheries and aquatic sciences

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
There are a computer lab. for 30 student and a technical drawing class In our department. There is also a model ship for inclining experiment.
