FOUNDATION & HISTORY  
Compared to the past, the continuously changing role of teachers in teaching-learning process has become more important in the recent years and has become a guide who not only explains the subject matter but also facilitates the learning process. Taking into needs of academic staff in this program account, Primary Teacher Education masters programme has stated to full time education in 2008-2009 educational year.
QUALIFICATION AWARDED  
The students who have successfully completed a minimum of 21 local credits (equivalant to 60 ECTS credits) from thought courses delivered within the graduate programme of the department and in related fields, achieved a CGPA of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 and prepared and successfully defended a thesis are given Master's Degree in ELEMENTARY EDUCATION (Primary Teacher Education)

ADMISSION & REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS  
Students who were graduated from related master programs are accepted doctorate program in accordance with the University Senate rules on 03/07/2009 date and 225 number. Students have 60 point from ALES. The acceptance score of the students are calculated by 55% from ALES, 35% from bachelor degree, 10% interview scores. And also, totaly score of the students must be 60 minimum.
OBJECTIVE of THE PROGRAMME  
Department of elementary education (Primary Teacher Education) aims to educate qualified individuals, based on contemporary approaches to the master program; aware of contemporary measurement and evaluation approaches, can arrange teaching activities according to the technological developments, can use different teaching methods and strategies in teaching process, can design a research determined to resolve any problem, recognize the scientific research and data analysis method and techniques in research design and can use them in data analysis as active and can follow the research in the field.
RECOGNATION of PRIOR LEARNING  
The "Directive on Recognition of Prior Learning", Senate Decision No. 340 issued on July 28, 2023, has been accepted and entered into force regarding the students registered in all programs of Karadeniz Technical University to determine the principles to be followed for the recognition, crediting, and adaptation of the achievements acquired by the students at non-university institutions.

In this Directive,

- recognition of knowledge, skills, and competencies acquired with special interest through an exemption exam to be substituted as program courses,
- recognition of workplace and internship experiences through portfolio evaluation to be substituted as program courses,
- and the crediting of certificates received from accredited institutions regarding students' special interests are covered.

Announcements of courses included in the scope of recognition of prior learning, applications, and evaluation will be made on the dates specified in the academic calendar. Recognition of prior learning will offer numerous benefits to our students and employers. For our students, increasing professional development and mobility in the labour market, preventing repetition of education and waste of time, providing early graduation, reducing the cost of learning, encouraging learning, and increasing the student's motivation and self-confidence can be counted among the benefits of recognition of prior learning. From the employers' perspectives, it will contribute to satisfying skill or competence deficiencies in the workplace, reducing the time employees spend outside the workplace for training purposes, and thus using resources more efficiently.

1 - Bachelor's Degree in acceptable fields, 2 - Sufficient score from the National Academic Staff & Graduate Education Exam (ALES), 3 - English proficiency 4. Entering the interview
KTU Graduate Education Regulations
EXAMINATION, ASSESSMENT and GRADING REGULATIONS  
The examination, assessment and grading regulations have been set up for the university by the University Senate and the Department of Elementary Education (Primary Teacher Education) is bound by these regulations. Each course is assessed via a midterm exam, a second mid-term exam composed of quizzes, homeworks and assignments, and a final end-of-term exam, with contributions of 30%, 20% and 50% respectively.

DEPARTMENTAL FACILITIES : 
There are adequate number of academic and support staff (experts, technician, secretary) available in the programme. Also externel support from other programmes will be sought if neccessary. A science laboratory is available at the faculty and will be used when necessary. Four clusters with 30 computers in each cluster is available for students. All computers in all clusters are connected to the Internet, and projction machines and scanners are also available within these computer laboratories. Faculty library is open to all students which consist of educational resources. Students can also access to Faik Ahmet Barutcu library which is a university library and covers a large amount of data bases and research resources.
